Intention and Releasing Old Stories

So....this was weird.  I was sleeping a peaceful sleep and I woke up in the middle of the night at like 2:30 in the morning with these words in my head. I have no idea what they were doing there, but it was like I dreamed I was answering a parenting question (I do answer a lot of parenting questions when I'm awake, but not so much when I'm sleeping ~ that I know of), and I was awakened in the midst of the dream.

Apparently, I was being asked about parenting from a place of wholeness when you have a lot of healing to do from your own childhood. So many of us have a lot of healing to do from our own upbringing. That's not shameful or terrible. It just is. But, it can be hard to do something about it because it turns out that our kids ~ just in being who they are with the needs they have and the way they need to go about meeting those needs ~ trigger us and our store of unhealed emotional pain. That accounts for a lot of our own volatile reactions to our kids' whining, crying, and acting-out behavior. That accounts for why it is hard to be their emotion coach!

Now, believe it or not, I often wake up in the middle of the night with some cool words in my "mind's ear" (kind of like your mind's eye, only an ear), but I'm often too damn lazy to get up and write 'em down, thinking I'll remember in the morning.  But, guess what.  I rarely do remember!  Last night was different. I got up and scribbled down the exact words I was hearing in my "mind's ear."  And, here they are:

I intend to release this old story I was believing in, and in so doing I am allowing myself to be open to experience all the good that my old beliefs may have been blocking for me.

I think there's a great power in intention. And, that is, I think, what this message is about. You can state your intention, and allow your life to flow from there. Intention is a powerful tool to have. It's about being mindful. It's about identifying and stating what you WANT, rather than what you don't want. It's about acknowledging and embracing your own power in your life.

Anyway, that's the news from Dreamsville, where I am apparently learning all the time!
